Second to None,
Inspiring Stories of Extraordinary Women
Second to None is a documentary that consists of six episodes, each approximately 15 minutes in length. The six episodes inspire, educate and promote understanding of the issues and obstacles that have confronted American women from the birth of our nation on through to today. The extraordinary stories related in the documentary are often told by the women themselves who overcame the odds to do great things. The first episode explores the suffragette movement of the 1800s that led to women getting the vote in 1920. Episode 2 picks up from there and brings us up to Title IX and other legislation that changed the game for women in education. The next four episodes each explore a different career path and the struggles women have had to succeed in them: aviation, business/entrepreneurship, sports and politics. Educational materials for middle and high school teachers were developed to accompany the DVD by Cardinal Stritch University School of Education, Milwaukee, WI. An elementary level reader is also available.
